What comes to mind when you think of Bowls? ...... Old folks! You couldn’t be more wrong. Bowls is one of the few games that spans the generations from 9-90 years making it a perfect sport for the whole family to enjoy. A seasoned bowler can make it look easy but certain skills are needed if you want to play in league matches, as with anything else practice will get you there. It is also a very sociable game and on the open day we would like to welcome you to our clubhouse at Stanhope Park where we hope to give you a taste of the fun and skill involved in playing bowls. Members will be on hand to help and advise you. Tea, coffee and a cold buffet will be available during the day or for those who prefer something a bit stronger our bar will be open.
The outdoor season opens in April and closes in September. On Monday evenings we play a Club Competition and Wednesday afternoon have a social roll up. Teams from the club play in the 71 Shield Trophy for men and the 86 Shield Trophy for ladies. There is also a North Devon Triples League for men and ladies.
The short mat season starts in October and closes in March. Monday evening is club night for practicing. Come along to the weekly roll up on a Friday afternoon for a friendly social game . If you are more competitive all paying members are entitled to enter the various internal club championship competitions. Flat soled shoes have to be worn but there is no fixed dress code for roll ups. The rigidness of the dress code, especially in competitive bowls in recent years has been relaxed slightly in recognition of younger players taking up the sport.
